I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: If you Press a Word long and hard enough…

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

Most kids get a kick out of watching films that they are supposedly not old enough for – and sometimes it’s those films that shape our tastes for life. For this week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees, Sam wrote about how he got to see both Once Upon a Time in the West and The Name of the Rose at an impressionable age… and what an impression they both left on him!

Next, Julie joined with Alan and Sam to launch our summer podcast series, the Summer of Collaborations, with an episode about one of the most immortal Hollywood couples: Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy!

Sadly, WordPress decided to go wonky on us (who would’ve expected it?), so here’s a single regular trailer for the week.

Matt: I remember really enjoying the first couple of seasons of Black Mirror – but then it continued, and other than for the occasional single episode I simply couldn’t muster much enthusiasm. It felt like the series continued because people watched it, not because the series’ makers had stories they felt strongly about. Perhaps if I hadn’t liked the early episodes so much, I could’ve just watched and enjoyed what followed for what it was: well-made, occasionally clever Twilight Zone-style fare taking present-day (and near-future) tech as its starting point. But that’s the problem: the series started off by showing that it could be all that… and more.
