I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: Sometimes they come back

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

Matt may not have been won over by the film Disco Boy – but he did like its trailer a lot, which gives us the perfect starting point for this post.

Meanwhile, Alan wrote about how his appreciation of Douglas Adams developed, highlighting the wonderful Last Chance to See – which, like The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy before (and after) was a BBC radio series, a book, and even a TV series.

But, as always, there’s more to this trailer post, so stick around!

Mege: Hmmmm, this series needs to do something above and beyond Us, or it will never step out of its shadow. Or maybe it doesn’t want to. Maybe it’s fine pretending it’s one thing while really being an altogether different beast.

Matt: Chilean writer-director has been on my radar ever since his 2012 film No about the political campaign and plebiscite that forced the dictator Augusto Pinochet to step down. He’s since made a number of fascinating films, including the incandescent Ema and unconventional, intriguing biopics like Neruda, Jackie and 2021’s Spencer. His new film, El Conde, returns to Chilean politics – again giving it an unexpected spin: in it, Pinochet is portrayed as a centuries-old vampire who decides to die. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested.
