I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: Where have all the kangaroos gone?

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

The Fellini caravan continues with The White Sheik, a satirical look at post-war Italy that indulges too much in some of the hoariest clichés of farce for Matt, but there are definitely things to enjoy.

Which may be more than can be said about Once Upon a Time in America in the botched studio cut that Alan watched, so we don’t have to!

But there’s more to this trailer post than vintage Italian comedy and Leonine gangster classics!

Mege: Men drinking at the bar, being served by young female bartenders. Usually the stuff of social drama; here, it seems to evolve into a thriller with horror aspects. If it weren’t for the cast, it might be your movie of the week. I am not sure if I would pick this one at the theatre, but why not via VOD with my sweetheart and a bowl of popcorn? It’ll be like a date.

Matt: We started this post with broad comedy and we’re ending it with broad comedy. I wouldn’t normally be in the target audience for Quiz Lady – but I’ve enjoyed Awkwafina in quite a few films, from Shang-Chi to The Farewell, and I am morbidly curious how the wonderful Sandra Oh does with this kind of material.
