I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: Showing you fear in a handful of previews

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

There are movies that are like rides – but what about rides that are like movies? In this week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees, Sam shared his experience with such rides with us.

And oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth – but it’s not the only one by far: following from our October podcast on three varieties of Dracula, Julie and Matt used this month’s espresso podcast to talk about some other stories of the vampiric kind.

Sharks, vampires… what else is out there that is scary?

Mege: I am really not any kind of petrolhead, so Christine should be medium-scary for me, but the thought that my car could get from jealous to murderous is deeply disturbing. I can’t cross the road on foot when the lights are red, so thank you, Stephen King.

Matt: Finally, there may well be monsters of a more thoroughly human kind in the latest film by Hirokazu Kore-eda – a director whose films are usually gentle and poignant. From what I’ve heard, Broker, his previous film, leaned into that gentleness almost too much and veering into sentimental country. Monster doesn’t look to be sentimental – but it’ll probably bank on Kore-eda’s strength when it comes to directing children.
