I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: Listen to them, the children of the night

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

How do we choose the things we watch? And is there such a thing as too much choice? In this week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees, Matt wrote about the extremely limited viewing choices of his childhood – and how they are in part the reason why he’s so much into film.

We also released the final podcast in our Summer of Remakes this week, in which Julie is joined by Alan and Sam to talk about all the Stars that Were, Are, and Will Be Born. Enjoy the trailers below for all the films they discuss in the episode!

And what else is there to discuss this week in the world of trailers?

Mege: I couldn‘t think of a better casting choice than Amy Adams for a mother in over her head who turns into a dog – maybe metaphorically, maybe for real. I like how the movie approaches the borders of reality and then slightly crosses over.

Matt: It’s not so much that A Minecraft Movie looks stupid – which it definitely does. It’s not even that it looks childish – which it also does. It’s that it looks lazy. It looks like the results of an AI prompt that definitely included the words “wacky”, “minecraft” and “jack black”. It’s times like this that I am so, so glad I’m not a parent and not at risk of having to watch this a dozen times with a kid whose taste has yet to develop.
