I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: Floating in space

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

It seems we’ve been doing our weekly feature Six Damn Fine Degrees for a while: this week saw the release of the 200th instalment – which prompted Alan to take a time-out from the usual free association and look back on some of his favourite posts and associations. Follow him down this particular rabbit hole here.

For more from Alan, check out this month’s espresso podcast, in which he and Sam talk about the latest addition to the long-running Alien franchise.

And while this week’s trailer post is short, we’ve got one more goody for you.

Matt: It’s fair to say that I love some of Bong Joon-ho’s films, and I’m not alone with this here at A Damn Fine Cup of Culture. I wasn’t a huge fan of his 2017 film Okja, however; it’s not bad, but the director’s oddball humour felt off-key in his first English-language film. Mickey 17 looks wild and fascinating, like a Coenesque, screwball riff on Duncan Jones’ Moon, but again, there’s something about the humour that feels weirdly off. Perhaps, once it’s out, I’ll need to hunt down a Korean-language dub and watch it with English subtitles?
