Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.
For this week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees, Julie turned the conversation to the iconic Once Upon a Time in the West by the equally iconic Sergio Leone.
Meanwhile, Matt struggled with Fellini Satyricon, a film full of striking images, but not necessarily the most coherent of Fellini’s works. If ambitious, original messes are your thing, Satyricon certainly delivers.

Matt: I’ve never seen The Exorcist III. (Hell, I’ve not even seen The Exorcist II, though I hear that may be the best way to enjoy the film.) The closest I’ve come is playing The Exorcist: Legion, a virtual reality game that’s inspired by the film and based on the same novel by William Peter Blatty, the author of the original novel (which he won an Academy Award for adapting for William Friedkin’s stone cold classic). I didn’t get very far in the game – it was just too damn scary, especially in VR, where you’re essentially in the world where all this scary shit goes down. Perhaps I’d fare better with the film, which is getting a 4K rerelease? And talking of ultra-HD reissues of classic horror: it’s been decades since I last saw Carrie, but many of its scenes and images have stayed with me. And it’s definitely a case of the film improving on the novel it’s based on – Stephen King’s a highly effective storyteller, but boy, is his writing clunky at times, especially in his earlier stories…
