Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.
We spent much of this week on A Damn Fine Cup of Culture looking back by many, many decades, starting with Alan’s ruminations on Howard Hawks’ screwball comedy Ball of Fire and the ways its cast of characters would lend itself to spin-offs.
We followed this up with the release of our November podcast, in which Julie was joined by Alan (him again!). The two of them took a note from our podcast series, the Summer of Remakes, and talked about the remakes that very few people seem to know are remakes – because these films are so much more iconic than the ones that came before: Some Like It Hot and The Maltese Falcon.
But let’s end this week’s post with an oddity coming to cinemas soon: Joshua Oppenheimer’s musical apocalypse The End, starring Tilda Swinton, Michael Shannon, George MacKay and Moses Ingram. When the end is nigh, who wouldn’t want to break into song?
