I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: Leave the right ones outside

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

For this week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees, Sam took us back to one of his childhood favourites: The Little Vampire, which he discovered first as a TV series and then as a series of children’s books. But, sadly, there doesn’t seem to be a trailer for that one, so here’s a trailer for a very different vampire child.

Staying with the creepy things that can happen if you invite the wrong person into your house: Matt finally got around to watching another Criterion release on his backlog with Claude Chabrol’s chilling La Cérémonie.

And let’s end with a trailer that most people are unlikely to have seen:

Matt: Having seen the Visconti adaptation of the classic novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, The Leopard, I almost feel sorry for this Netflix adaptation. I’m sure that a series can include more that’s in the novel, but this looks so generic and, well, Netflix-y. Visconti’s got a style all of his own, so there’d definitely be space for a different take on the material, but if you’re going to offer an alternative to a classic, do it with style, do it with a sense of vision. So often these days, Netflix series look like what a more conservative AI told to adapt classic literature might come up with.
