I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: The ball goes into the hole

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

This week, Alan contributed to our ongoing Six Damn Fine Degrees series with his look back at accidentally discovering the ’90s Italian comedy Volere Volare. Sadly, it’s as difficult to find a trailer for the film as it is to find the film itself, so here’s a short sequence (in Italian) that’s a nice illustration of how Volere Volare blends live-action film and animation.

Matt, meanwhile, wrote about one of his favourite ways of hanging out with friends in cyberspace: playing the wonderful VR game Walkabout Mini Golf, which takes its players to tropical islands, super villain lairs, sunken kingdoms and even the wonderful world of Aardman animation.

What else do we have in our trailer grab bag this week?

Mege: This movie is, in some sense, a nice segue from last week‘s words about the late David Lynch. I don‘t know if I would be interested in that flick if it didn‘t have an excellent cast. Maybe the title of the classical musical piece is a bit on the nose, but some great names of German acting are in there, going up against each other, raging against the dying of the light.

Matt: In a bit over a month, Disney+ is bringing back everyone favourite blind Catholic lawyer/vigilante. Disney’s Marvel series have been a mixed bag; I’ve enjoyed some, disliked others, and many were rather meh at best. I am curious, though, how the Netflix-launched Daredevil will fare in the Kingdom of the Mouse: the series wasn’t always brilliant, but it had its very own rough edge and put this to good use. It’d be a shame if Daredevil were to be MCU-ed too much in its resurrection.
