I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: Fear is the mind killer

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

It can’t all be films: in this week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees, Matt wrote about his happiest childhood memories, which are largely of the times he spent at the library or reading books he got from the library. And what better trailer to feature with respect to cool libraries than this one?

This week also saw the release of our May podcast, in which Sam, Julie and Matt looked at a film that made a big splash when it came out 37 years ago: The Unbearable Lightness of Being, a film about desire, exile and the weight of history.

And what else do we have to offer this week?

Matt: I don’t often get to watch horror films, but if I did, both of these would be on my watch list. Not only do they look creepy as hell, they also look like they tell interesting stories. Not that either has an entirely original premise: how many horror films are about the wish to reach out and talk to those we have lost? And the Pied Piper of Hamelin is a medieval legend. But how many films are there that have done these stories well and unexpectedly? Bring Her Back and Weapons both look like they have a good chance of doing so.
