I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: (template)

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

In 1982, while England was whipped into a frenzy of nationalism by a wedding that, in hindsight, didn’t seem to benefit any of the parties involved, our Alan was taken to see Richard Attenborough’s Academy Award-winning Gandhi and got a glimpse of the ways that the British Empire wasn’t perhaps all it was cracked up to be.

Meanwhile, our August espresso podcast took us down another dark, ominous road, courtesy of the late David Lynch, as Sam and Alan revisit Lost Highway.

And what else is happening in the land of trailers?

Matt: Having just watched Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger, which takes us through the Archers’ films through the eyes of super-fan Martin Scorsese, I can absolutely imagine watching Apple TV’s five-part documentary on Scorsese’s films, directed by Rebecca Miller. If any of the interviewees talk about the director like he talks about Powell and Pressburger, as they bloody well should, we’re in for a treat.

Matt: Not what I expected for 2025: an action thriller in which sexagenarian Emma Thompson takes on some kidnappers. Thompson may not be the new John Wick, but the trailer makes it look like she will beat some sense and sensibility into the bad guys if need be.

Matt: Realistically, do I need to say anything more than “Here’s a trailer for the new film by Jafar Pahani”? After No Bears, I don’t need anything more than that – and, judging from the trailer, neither should you.
