I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: That is the question

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

This week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees was dedicated to one of Hollywood’s legendary foulmouths: Carole Lombard, the “Profane Angel”. Join Alan in remembering Lombard and her broad range of talents!

There was a time when Matt would have praised Elizabeth Moss and her screen talents, but after six seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale moving further and further away from Margaret Atwood’s ever-timely classic into tacky hero worship he’s quite okay giving Moss a rest for a while. Still, that first season was good stuff.

And what else do we have on offer this week?

Matt: Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague is wearing me down: with its most recent trailer I have to say that I’m curious. It looks charming and zippy and potentially witty. Mostly, though, it makes me think that it may be time for me to give Godard’s Breathless another chance: I like Godard in small doses, but I’ve bounced off of most of his feature films – except Contempt. Go figure. Still, if I want some stylish ’60s classic, perhaps I should try to catch the re-release of La Notte? I liked Antonioni’s L’Eclisse a lot when our favourite cinema showed it a few years ago – and this one features a great cast led by Marcello Mastroianni, Monica Vitti and the always wonderful Jeanne Moreau. And then, Mr Linklater, I might check out your movie.
