I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: This’ll blow your mind

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

In the blink of an eye, Halloween has been and gone… leaving behind a bunch of carved pumpkins that will look more and more ghoulish over time, and so many blog posts, including this week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees post, written by Alan, Julie and Sam, which focused on all things scary from a range of different perspectives.

Staying with scary stuff, we also released our November podcast episode, in which Matt and Alan discuss the first season of Noah Fawley’s Alien: Earth. Did it sink its teeth into us, or would we have preferred to take an escape pod and get the hell outta there?

And what else do we have for you to feast your bloodshot eyes on?

Matt: More scares, of a decidedly pulpy kind: this film looks like the kind of movies that were made on the cheap back in the late ’70s and early ’80s – which doesn’t mean it is necessarily bad. And let’s face it: chimps have had it coming at least since Nope. Or is it the more hairless primates that had it coming?

Matt: We come to the end of the road, finally. I’m less excited than relieved: Stranger Things has got bigger and louder ever since that scrappy, effective first season, but with every continuation it felt like the bigness and volume just covered up for the fact that this wasn’t a story that benefited from being stretched out, like ’80s butter scraped over too much monster movie bread. Obviously, I want to know how it ends, but more out of a sense of obligation: I don’t like leaving stories unfinished. My main hope for season 5? That they will genuinely bring things to an end and not pull that old “… but is it?” trick.
