Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.
It’s International Bunny Weekend, so grab your Easter nest and check out what we have for you in terms of trailers! To begin with: Matt once again revisited family memories and the impact these have had on his movie watching, in this week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees. Getting a shoutout in the post is the 1960 war film Sink the Bismarck! – for which, surprisingly, there is an actual, original trailer on YouTube!
Also this week, we released this month’s main podcast episode: it’s another Second Chances, and this time we have Sam and Alan taking another look at a slice of Visconti, The Damned, and a fun Hollywood comedy by the Coen Brothers (remember when they made movies together?), Hail, Caesar!
And what other chocolate eggs have we hidden in the garden, waiting to be discovered?
Matt: I don’t really know anything much about the whole Backrooms creepypasta mythology that has sprung up on the internet, but I like a good liminal space as much as the next person. If they can truly capture the disturbing quality of these ideas, I’m there for it. And at least when it comes to the cast, they seem to be serious about this: Chiwetel Ejiofor? Renate Reinsve? Yes, please!
Matt: It’s been too long since David Lowery’s strange, magnificent The Green Knight. His new film, Mother Mary, which is finally getting its release at the end of April, plays in a different world – but Lowery’s films all play in Lowery World, a place that is one step to the side of whatever genre sandbox they play in. And I’m more than curious to see what Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel will get to be in this world.
