Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.
Can one not be on a boat? Is England just a conspiracy of cartographers? And what’s the use of a short, blunt human pyramid? Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead may not answer any of these questions, but it’s definitely worth visiting and then revisiting – as Julie can assure our readers.
Meanwhile, on a planet that seems to consist mainly of sand… For our main April podcast, Alan and Julie talked about Dune: Part 2, for which they were once again joined by Daniel Thron of Martini Giant, friend of our site and VFX artist. Dan worked on Denis Villeneuve’s second Dune film and definitely knows what he’s talking about, so make sure to check out the episode!
But wait, there’s more!
Mege: I probably liked The Batman more than your average moviegoer. With this one, I don‘t know – the Penguin is not all that interesting, and I don‘t know if he can carry a movie all on his own. It will depend on the atmosphere, and I am drawn to the dark side.
Matt: I was less taken with Poor Things than most were, and I largely blamed writer Tony McNamara and the diminishing returns of his humour for this. Lanthimos’ next film, Kinds of Kindness, reunites him with Efthymis Filippou, who wrote for The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and the supremely uncomfortable Dogtooth, so I’m hoping for a return to the earlier, more jagged style. The cast looks great too – Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley also return, and they’re joined by Jesse Plemons and Hong Chau. The trailer doesn’t give me much of a sense of the film yet, but I’ll definitely be there when it comes out.
