I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: No S*#!, lots of Sherlocks

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

This week, we released the latest Six Damn Fine Degrees post by Melanie – which veers away from her more recent takes on South Korean television and takes us all the way to Tarkovsky’s Zone. Stalker is a classic – but not everyone is a huge fan of his particular brand of damp, elliptic existentialism.

What’s this? A new podcast episode? About not one, not two, but a whopping three Sherlock Holmeses? If you’re curious to hear what Julie, Alan and Sam think about three film adaptations of Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective, make sure to check out this week’s new podcast release, Three Sherlocks!

Sadly, it seems that YouTube only has trailers for Sherlock Holmes in New York in languages other than English – but I have it on reasonably good authority that we’re not really missing much by not featuring that particular trailer…

And to finish the week’s trailer post, here are two trailers for upcoming releases.

Matt: I’ve not watched much of the animated Star Wars series, whereas I greatly enjoyed the first two seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. And yet, I find myself more interested about Tales of the Underworld, because it seems to capture a particularly Wild West flavour that’s in some of Star Wars. The vibe is impeccable. The teaser for Strange New Worlds season 3, on the other hand, seems very much like they’re going wild with fan service and callbacks, to such an extent that it actually puts me off a bit. Obviously these are trailers, designed to get as many people curious as possible, so it doesn’t much matter what I think personally – and, to be honest, I’m more likely to watch the continuation of Strange New Worlds. Still: good job, Star Wars trailer folks! And to the good people at Paramount: I very much hope you’ve got more in store for me than winks at the franchise’s past.
