I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: Movies and monsters and more, oh my!

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

Remember Star Trek: The Next Generation? Matt once wrote a novel featuring the TNG crew – or was it fanfic? Read his Six Damn Fine Degrees post to find out more.

From the final frontier of space to horrors both cosmic and supernatural: it’s October, and we’re dedicating our podcast to three cinematic frighteners all starting with the most scary of articles, “The”.

And what else do we have on offer this week?

Matt: I’ve liked some of Noah Baumbach’s films, have even loved one or two – but Jay Kelly looks a bit too close to the kind of film Hollywood does where it starts off poking fun at itself or even shining a light on some of its more iffy sides, only to end up as a paean to Tinseltown and its denizens: “Sure, we’re neurotic, we’re annoying, we’re superficial, but in the end, we’re just as sad and broken as you, so love us, ‘kay?” I’m hoping the film isn’t that, because I definitely like much of its cast. Perhaps the trailer isn’t the best representation of the movie as a whole, or perhaps there’s more to it than meets the eye? Because I’m not sure I want to watch what might amount to a feature-length Nespresso ad.

Matt: Now this one… The Bride! could be fantastic, it could be dreadful, but it looks fresh and original, and hey, I’m always happy to see Jessie Buckley get her freak on. Bonnie & Clyde with monsters? Gimme more of that!
