Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.
In this week’s Six Damn Fine Degrees, Julie wrote about the kind of narratives that history lends itself to, for better and for worse. One of the books that gets a mention is Dan Jones’ The Hollow Crown – so here’s a trailer for BBC’s The Hollow Crown from a while back.
Meanwhile, for our March espresso podcast Alan and Sam looked at two recent riffs on a duo of iconic 19th century novels. Let’s just say: hooray for the Wuthering Brides!
But that’s not all for this week’s trailer grab bag!
Matt: Oh, how I wish I could watch and like Martin McDonagh‘s movies, but there is something that keeps me outside like a shy window-shopper. I get the humour and the characters, I am able to follow the story, so what don‘t I get? I am a part of a small minority that can‘t slip into his world without several question marks. Weird, but there it is.
Matt: This year, Zendaya’s returning to the big screen first as Spider-Man‘s MJ (but not that MJ) and then as Dune‘s Chani. The former trailer doesn’t exactly get me excited for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which seems to be intent on undoing what Spider-Man: No Way Home did – in which case: why make that momentous change to begin with? -, but at least it looks like we’ll get a more street-level Spidey, which isn’t altogether bad. I’m also a bit lukewarm on Dune: Part Three, not having loved the second part (though others here certainly did). But whether these trailers got me all excited or not, I’ll certainly be there at the cinema to see both these films, if already for completeness’ sake.
