Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.
In 1989, the documentary film For All Mankind provided a different perspective on the Apollo programme and the moon landing. In 2022, Matt finally got around to watching the film and writing about it.
From one kind of ship (the flying kind) to another (the doomed seafaring kind): Matt also recently played Return of the Obra Dinn and lived to tell the tale of who killed whom and by what means.
Finally, Matt got a bit of a rest as Mege instead used his latest Six Damn Fine Degrees post to write about Grace Jones – which means that we can’t really not post this trailer can we?
Well, that’s already three trailers – but let’s finish with one more to end the week on:
Matt: The first For All Mankind I saw wasn’t actually the late ’80s documentary but the Apple TV+ series created, amongst others, by Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica fame. It’s one of those series that doesn’t reinvent the format, but it delivers exciting, smart, damn well made entertainment. For All Mankind gives us an alternative history where the space race went very differently and the Soviets put a man on the moon first. I’ve only seen the first season, but Apple has already brought out two more seasons, and I’m looking forward to exploring them before long.
