I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: Big Fish

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

We had a busy Friday this week, with not just one post but two – including Sam’s look at one of the rarely mentioned (and even more rarely appreciated) films in Billy Wilder’s filmography: Fedora.

On Friday, Matt also finished rewatching Six Feet Under, a series that had once been at the absolutely top of his favourites, HBO or not. He came away with a somewhat more ambivalent but still appreciative take on the lives and deaths of the Fisher family.

Which brings us to the kind of demise that was rarely features on Six Feet Under: death by gargantuan shark.

Mege: If you go to Jurassic Park for its realism, then you should go and see The Meg 2 for existentialism. Get popcorn and watch Jason Statham not getting eaten. There is a lesson for all of us in this. Probably.

Matt: While this is just a teaser in the literal sense of the word, giving us a tantalising glimpse of Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest, from the deadpan Frankenstein riff to the giant fish Emma Stone is riding, I am hooked. Lanthimos’ last collaboration with Tony McNamara proved to be great for both the director and the writer, and the other cast members are no slouches either. Whoever the poor things of the title are, I doubt it’ll be the audience.
