I’ll be in my trailer… watching trailers: You wouldn’t pick a pocket

Join us every week for a trip into the weird and wonderful world of trailers. Whether it’s the first teaser for the latest instalment in your favourite franchise, an obscure preview for a strange indie darling, whether it’s good, bad, ugly or just plain weird – your favourite pop culture baristas are there to tell you what they think.

Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’: in his series on the Academy Awards Best Picture winners, Alan has arrived at 1937’s The Life of Emile Zola.

Also this week, Sam remembered his teenage years and being menaced by a certain killer clown named Pennywise.

And what do we have to offer this week, aside from homicidal, supernatural bozos?

Mege: Erm, I honestly don’t remember much about the second X-Files movie except it was not as good as the first one. So why must there be a director’s cut? To improve its mediocre reputation? Or does it have something to do with the forthcoming Ryan Coogler-helmed return of Scully and Mulder? There is only one way to find out, and by then it will be too late, the future will be here and we will all be abducted.

Matt: The Only Living Pickpocket in New York reminds me of bouncing right off my first Bresson film. (Obviously I’m not talking about the donkey movie.) more than that, though, it reminds me of how much I love a good ensemble cast, which this film seems to have. Sometimes I think that I enjoy a good ensemble more than most great individual performances. And John Turturro is certainly a great lead for an ensemble that includes the likes of Giancarlo Esposito, Steve Buscemi and Tatiana Maslany.
