And what else do we have for you this week?
Mege: Cristian Mungiu is among the most interesting European filmmakers around. I‘ve been following him since his debut about abortion, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) with an excellent Anamaria Marinca. Go see.
Matt: I don’t get much of a sense for Possible Love from the trailer – but there are two things that make me very curious about this upcoming film to be released by Netflix: 1) it’s by Lee Chang-dong, whose 2019 film Burning (based on a short story by Haruki Murakami) was one of the most fascinating films of that year, and 2) it is inspired, albeit loosely, by the episode of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Dekalog that was also released in an extended version, way back in 1988, as A Short Film About Love. Colour me more than a little intrigued.
Matt: I’ve posted the earlier teaser for Wildwood before, but this looks like it might give a better sense of the overall shape and feel of the film. The level and amount of detail in this stop-motion animated film is stunning, and I very much hope I’ll get to see it at the cinema: Laika’s work deserves to be seen on a big screen.
